ARM announced the release of the ARM Cortex-A35 processor

ARM announced the ARM® Cortex®-A35 processor, setting a new standard for power efficiency in 64-bit processors. The processor is the first in a new family of ultra-efficient cpus based on the ARMv8-A processor architecture, designed for fast-growing mobile and embedded applications. The ARMv8-A architecture offers 64-bit and 32-bit computing power and full encryption, enabling the Cortex-A35 to create a richer user experience. ARM expects the Cortex-A35 partner to be in volume production by the end of 2016.

James McNiven, managing director of ARM's processor division, said: "The Cortex-A35 is a natural successor to the Cortex-A7, which is known for its power efficiency and compact size and has been installed in more than a billion smartphones and tablets to date. The world's most powerful 64-bit mobile processor

The Cortex-A35 is the most powerful ARM Cortex-A series processor ever. It combines the power consumption level of a Cortex-A7 processor and the multi-core configurability of ARM big.LITTLE™ with the software maturity and 64-bit computing performance of the ARMv8-A architecture. Under 32-bit mobile workloads, the Cortex-A35 delivers an average of 20 percent better performance and efficiency than the Cortex-A7, and consumes less than 90 milliwatts per core while operating at 1GHz with a 28 nm process. Overall, the Cortex-A35 processor is a leader in "performance per milliwatt" and delivers a complete and unmatched 64-bit mobile user experience.

ARM and its partners have built a rapidly expanding 64-bit ecosystem. More than 50% of smartphones shipped today are powered by ARMv8-A based SOCs, and a large proportion of these are powered by 64-bit Cortex-A53 processors. Compared to the Cortex-A53, the Cortex-A35 uses 33% less power per nuclear energy and 25% less chip area.

The Cortex-A35 is the first in a new family of ultra-energy-efficient processors that integrate the benefits of the ARMv8-A architecture into low-power embedded applications, such as single-board computers and automotive electronics. This processor family is the industry's most powerful new IP option for a market looking for more features and functionality with limited power consumption. In addition, to support the differentiation and rapid deployment of embedded applications, ARM provides partners with a full range of training and design assistance services to fully support the new processor family to market.
