Ams introduces new 1A synchronous buck converter
Ams, a leading provider of high-performance analog ics and sensors, has introduced a new 1A synchronous buck converter that operates over an ultra-wide input voltage range with high efficiency and low static current to meet the design needs of single-unit lithium battery devices.
The new AS1382 step-down converter can operate in the ultra-wide input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V, the output voltage is down to 0.6V, the conversion efficiency is up to 96%, and the no-load current is only 95µA, which can effectively help lithium battery device designers reduce power circuit losses and extend the service time of the device after charging. In addition, when the buck is in off mode, the current consumption of the device is only 0.04µA.
The AS1382 buck converter is available in a 1.22mm x 0.85mm WL-CSP6 wafer-scale chip package (PITCH: 0.4mm) and can operate at 2MHz, 3MHz and 4MHz fixed switching frequencies using only small inductors. This means that circuits based on the AS1382 DC-DC converter will be able to achieve extremely small sizes and can be used in a variety of electronic device designs where board space is limited, such as mobile phones, portable media players and wearables.
The new AS1382 buck converter can operate at fixed output voltages of 1.0V, 1.2V, 1.5V and 1.8V, as well as adjustable output voltage ranges of 0.61-3.35V. Each of these converters can support 1A continuous load current with an output capacitance of only 10µF.
The AS1382 operates in two modes: Low ripple/low noise mode, which produces very low ripple and noise; In energy efficient mode, the device has low power loss when serving light loads, which improves the standby time of battery-powered products. At the same time, the device has a built-in synchronization switch, eliminating the need for external Schottky diodes.
