Cypress introduces the industry's most advanced automotive touch screen controller

     Cypress Semiconductor, a leader in advanced embedded system solutions, has introduced a new family of automotive capacitive touch screen controllers that deliver the most advanced performance on the market for next-generation infotainment systems. The Cypress TrueTouch CYAT817 touch screen controller family meets stringent automotive quality standards. The series features advanced hover touch capabilities that can detect fingers up to 35 mm above the screen and accurately measure different pressure applied by multiple fingers. The series' integrated sound and haptic feedback controls offer faster response times compared to systems that cannot measure touch and pressure on a chip, enabling a better user experience.

     The TrueTouchCYAT817 controller family for automotive meets stringent automotive electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements while enabling levitation and pressure touch. Thanks to its energy-efficient 32-bit Arm@Cortex@-M processor and optimized analog front end, each controller replaces the infotainment system's mechanical on/off buttons with capacitive touch sensors for a sleek, modern interior. By integrating on-chip sound and haptic feedback decision and control processing, the controller eliminates the need to transmit touch data via controller Area Network (CAN) or Distributed Low-voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) reverse channels for host processing, reducing response time.

     The CYAT817 controller supports two standard host interfaces such as I2C and SPI, as well as a CAN interface that can be used for higher level system integration or for redundancy of related security applications according to ISO26262. The controller prevents hacking through an encryption engine that securely encrypts host communications, prevents unauthorized access to touch data containing sensitive user information, and reverse-engineering to obtain PIN codes or passwords.

     Cypress AutoArmorM meets the most stringent EMC requirements of automotive manufacturers for immunity to chat-level radiation (IEC61967), conductivity (IEC62132) and radiation (ISO11452), as well as system-level (CISPR25) specifications. AutoAmor uses automatic frequency hopping to prevent false touch caused by EMI of other electronic systems and reduces electromagnetic radiation by up to 30% with transmitted spread spectrum.
