DELO has introduced an adhesive for bonding the voice coil motors of smartphone camera components

Over the past decade, voice coil motors (VCM) have been an important part of smartphone camera components to stabilize images and enable features such as autofocus. DELO DUALBOND LT2221 is a universal adhesive that performs more than 50 bonding tasks in the VCM manufacturing process. Fully cured at only 60°C, it requires less heat than comparable products and produces an equally effective bonding effect, greatly reducing the impact on temperature-sensitive substrates in VCM.
VCM is an extremely miniature motor whose components are only a few millimeters in size and are mostly made of temperature-sensitive materials. Assembling a VCM requires meeting many stringent temperature and quality requirements, and therefore requires the right adhesive for bonding. DELO DUALBOND LT2221 is a dual curing adhesive that features a low curing temperature of only 60°C, making it the perfect bonding solution for many consumer electronics applications.
The lines formed by this low-viscosity adhesive are very fine, which is good for bonding small parts like VCM. The adhesive has a compressive shear strength of up to 8 MPa on LCP, which is not only high strength, but also a wide range of applications.
The DELO DUALBOND LT2221 enables extremely fast assembly processes. When using a high-intensity DELOLUX curing lamp, light curing can be completed in just 0.5 seconds, which is a key advantage in VCM's multi-bonding tasks. For shaded areas, final strength can be achieved in one go at a temperature of, say, 60°C for 90 minutes.
"We have long worked with camera module manufacturers to provide them with tailor-made solutions, especially when it comes to active alignment processes," says Maximilian Baum, head of product management for Consumer electronics and devices at DELO. "With this versatile, high-end adhesive, our customers will be able to solve almost all the dozens of bonding tasks in VCM, which is rare in today's highly specialized high-tech manufacturing industry."
The VCM is a small but vital part of a smartphone camera module that enables features such as autofocus and optical stabilization. These mature technologies have been increasingly used in smartphone cameras for more than a decade.
