IR introduces the AUIR0815S gate driver IC for compact cars

     International Rectifier Corporation (IR) introduces the AUIR0815S, an automotive IC with A high output current of more than 10 A, capable of driving large IGBTs and MOSFETs at the inverter level. Suitable for power systems in hybrid and electric vehicles.

     The AUIR0815S 'ultra-low output impedance and low power losses allow it to operate in harsh and high-temperature environments. Typical output resistances are 90 mΩ sink and 180 mΩ source. With an integrated PMOS output parallel to a pull-up NMOS on the high voltage side, the device also enables negative gate drive and continuous on-off. The separate outputs of OUTH and OUTL help to choose between two different external resistors to charge and discharge the gate, which is critical for controlling electromagnetic interference and CdV/dT effects in high-power motor drivers and switch-mode power supply applications.

     "The AUIR0815S simplifies the design of inverter systems by providing high current drive performance with all the necessary protection features and standards to meet the requirements of the harsh automotive drive system environment," said David Pan, IR's Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific.

     IN the low input state of the IN pin, OUTL is pulled down to VEE, helping to achieve negative gate drive at low and wide selection of IGBTs. The internal breakdown prevention logic controls OUTH and OUTL to avoid simultaneous conduction, thus optimizing pure time lag. In addition, the new device activates a low current consumption mode through an LPM input pin to reduce IC consumption with slower operating latency.

     The device is packaged in SO-8, complies with AEC-Q101 standards, uses an environmentally friendly, lead-free bill of materials (BOM), complies with the Control of Hazardous Substances Regulations (RoHS) for Electronic products, and follows the IR's zero defect automotive quality philosophy.
