Infineon helps launch the industry's first LPDDR flash memory for the next generation of automotive electronic and electrical architecture
Infineon Technologies has launched the industry's first LPDDR flash memory to help build the next generation of automotive electronic and electrical (E/E) architecture. Infineon SEMPER™ X1 LPDDR Flash provides critical secure, reliable, and real-time code execution for automotive domain and area controllers. The device delivers up to 8 times the performance of current NOR flash memory and a 20-fold increase in random read transaction speed for real-time applications. This enables software-defined vehicles with advanced features that enhance safety and architectural flexibility.
The next generation of vehicles is smarter, more connected, more complex, and demands higher levels of safety and reliability, which rely on advanced multi-core processors developed using advanced manufacturing processes. At these advanced nodes, high density embedded non-volatile memory is no longer a viable cost option, and system architects need to consider using external NOR for code storage. However, these sophisticated automotive real-time processors require higher performance than existing memory on the market. To meet this need, Infineon has developed the SEMPER X1, whose LPDDR4 interface supports speeds of 3.2 GB/ s and uses a multiway architecture to meet the performance and density requirements of domain and area controllers.
Jim Handy, general manager of semiconductor market research firm Objective Analysis, said: "With the rapid development of semi-autonomous vehicles and ever more sophisticated engine controls, real-time decision-making capabilities are critical to keeping vehicles and drivers safe. Infineon LPDDR flash provides real-time XiP memory that can also be scaled independently of the processor, effectively meeting the needs of the next generation of vehicles. "I'm very bullish on this new type of non-volatile memory and look forward to seeing this ecosystem flourish."
"We are excited to introduce the SEMPER X1 LPDDR flash memory to provide a real-time, secure and reliable flash solution for zone controllers," said Sandeep Krishnegowda, vice president of Flash Solutions Marketing and Applications at Infineon Technologies. As the market leader in NOR Flash automotive memory, we are excited to work with our industry partners to advance the standardization of memory and bring memory to a broader market."
