IDT Corporation announced that it has introduced the world's first true single-chip wireless power transmitter and the industry's highest power output single-chip receiver solution. IDT's highly integrated multi-mode transmitter reduces board area by 80% and solution bill of Materials (BOM) costs by 50% compared to existing solutions. The more versatile multi-mode receiver delivers twice the power of the usual solution and cuts charging time in half.

     The IDTP9030 and IDTP9020 provide wireless power transmitter and receiver solutions designed to meet the Wireless Charging Alliance's (WPC) Qi standard, guaranteeing interoperability with other WPC Qi compliant devices. Both the transmitter and receiver are capable of "multi-mode" operation and can support the Qi standard and dedicated formats for increased functionality, improved safety and increased power output. Built-in protocol detection enables dynamic conversion between Qi and dedicated modes for a smooth transition and reliable user experience. These devices can be used in a large number of mobile applications for convenient and easy battery charging.

     Arman Naghavi, vice president and general manager of IDT's Analog & Power Division, said: "IDT is the first company to provide a true single-chip wireless power transmitter IC solution to address the expected $3.3 billion wireless power market. IDT's new transmitter reduces the application area from 1800 mm2 to 360 mm2 and enables the functionality of nine ics with one IC, allowing our customers to develop more compact and cost-effective products. In addition, our proprietary multi-mode capabilities go beyond the limitations of the Qi standard to improve safety by enhancing foreign object detection and increasing output power to speed up charging times, ultimately benefiting our customers."

     The IDTP9030 is the most integrated wireless power transmitter available today. It combines the features and functions of a large number of discrete components into a simple, cost-effective and efficient solution. Integration minimizes application area and component count, allowing customers to design and deploy more compact, cost-effective and accessible wireless charging stations. These charging stations can be deployed anywhere, including homes, offices, libraries, stores, public waiting areas, cars, airports, and airplane seats.

     The IDTP9020 is a high efficiency single chip wireless power receiver. In Qi mode, the device delivers up to 5 watts to the system. When used with the IDTP9030 transmitter in a dedicated configuration, it can deliver up to 7.5 watts, making the device suitable for powerful mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, digital cameras, GPS and headphones. When used together, the IDTP9030 and IDTP9020 are the industry's most efficient end-to-end wireless power solutions, reducing energy costs and achieving faster charging times.

     The IDTP9020 and IDTP9030 also feature patented multi-level Foreign Object Detection (FOD), which utilizes sophisticated multi-parameter algorithms to guarantee a high level of safety while avoiding FOD false positives. With over-temperature, over-voltage and over-current protection, IDT's solutions provide the most comprehensive protection on the market for safe and reliable operation. In addition, when wireless charging stations are not available, the receiver can also support USB cable charging, and USB adapter converters are no longer required in mobile devices.
