Maxim introduces the MAX17222nanoPower boost with the industry's highest efficiency and minimum static current (IQ) of 300nA to help wearable and consumer IoT designs achieve maximum battery life with minimum area. The MAX17222 is a boost regulator with input voltage range 0.4V-5.5V, output voltage range 1.8V-5V and input current limit of 500mA, which reduces the scheme area by up to 50% compared to similar products, while providing 95% peak efficiency with minimal heating.

The MAX17222 is ideal for all types of wearables and is forecast by IDC to achieve an 18.4% annual growth rate (CAGR) in 2020.

     The new generation of wearables, health monitoring, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile phones and other connected devices need to achieve more powerful functions and performance in a smaller size, and how to achieve longer battery life is a problem that designers are struggling to solve, and to provide power solutions for this market requires manufacturers to have low static current design and highly integrated integration technology.

     Maxim's latest product, the MAX17222, not only achieves the lowest static current, but also minimizes heat dissipation and shutdown current. Current consumption in True Shutdown™ mode is only 0.5nA, resulting in virtually no battery consumption, providing maximum battery life and eliminating the need for external power switches, significantly reducing the solution area compared to comparable products.

     In addition, the MAX17222 comes with internal compensation, requiring only a single configuration resistor and a small output filter to support full power output. For ease of use, this boost comes in a tiny, high-density 6-ball WLP package (0.88mm x 1.4mm) and a 6-pin standard uDFN package (2mm x 2mm) with an operating temperature range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C.
