Melexis introduces high performance sensor interface ics

     Increasing environmental concerns and increasingly stringent regulations are driving the demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Increasing the efficiency of the powertrain and reducing its impact on the environment must allow it to operate at higher temperatures, and the temperature must also be strictly controlled and monitored at all times. Melexis today announces the MLX90327, a high-performance sensor interface IC that accurately and reliably monitors high operating temperatures to meet key requirements for next-generation powertrain systems. The device can meet the operating temperature of -40℃ to 155℃, in this range its accuracy is not affected in any way.

     The MLX90327 comes with a digital single side half byte transfer (SENT) interface for advanced powertrain electronic control units (ECUs). It also has a pulse width modulation (PWM) output that can be used for general automotive and non-automotive applications. With this device, it is possible to adjust and monitor two platinum sensors (Pt-sensors) and a thermocouple, which allows the measurement of temperatures up to 1300 ° C. The MLX90327 also includes several on-board diagnostic functions that allow detection of possible sensor failures. In addition, the MLX90327's extensive protection against overvoltage and electrostatic discharge (ESD) events ensures a long service life.

     The MLX90327's high temperature monitoring capabilities have direct environmental benefits, allowing for more energy-efficient turbo chargers and better exhaust cleaning. Higher energy efficiency is achieved thanks to exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems, diesel particle filters and diesel oxidation catalysts that support higher operating temperatures. But the MLX90327 application is not limited to the powertrain, for example, the braking system of the truck will benefit from reliable and accurate measurement of high temperatures, and some high-temperature industrial processes will also benefit.
