Microchip introduces a new 8-bit microcontroller that integrates kern-independent peripherals
Microchip Technology has announced the addition of two 8-bit single-chip microprocessor (MCU) products to the PIC18 family. These microcontrollers combine the controller area network (CAN) bus with a large number of kern-independent peripherals (CIP), which not only enhances the system function, but also enables designers to develop CAN-based applications more easily without adding complex software.
A key advantage of using K83MCUs in CAN-based systems is that CIP provides a deterministic response to real-time events, reduces design time, and CAN be easily configured with the MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC) tool. This new range of products is ideal for applications using CAN in the medical, industrial and automotive markets, such as electric operating tables, asset tracking, ultrasound machines, automatic conveyors and automotive accessories. It is much easier for a system designer to configure hardware-based peripherals than it is to write and verify the entire software routine when completing a task, which can save a lot of time.
Steve Drehobl, Microchip's vice president of 8-bit MCU products, said: "The ability to configure an MCU with a few keystrokes in an MCC will change the way you design CAN. Using the same tools as other PIC microcontrollers, the K83 series CIP provides easy access to communication, intelligent simulation and low power consumption."
The 15 time-saving CIPs in the PIC18 K83 device include cyclic redundancy check (CRC) that supports memory scanning to ensure the integrity of non-volatile memory; Direct memory access (DMA), which enables data transfer between memory and peripherals without CPU involvement; The Window Watchdog Timer (WWDT) is used to trigger the system. Reset; The 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC2) with computing function supports automatic analog signal analysis and realizes real-time system response; Complementary waveform generator (CWG) for efficient synchronous switching of motor control.
