Micron introduces ultra-thin generator solutions based on MEMS coils
Micron, a company focused on the development and manufacture of microelectronic devices, has introduced an ultra-thin generator solution based on microelectromechanical system (MEMS) coils. This generator can convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, providing continuous power support for a variety of portable electronic devices.
Conventional generators usually consist of large mechanical devices, such as car engines or turbines in power plants. However, this traditional generator has certain limitations in terms of size, weight and efficiency, which is difficult to meet the needs of modern portable electronic devices.
Micron's ultra-thin generator solution uses MEMS technology to integrate micro coils onto an ultra-thin HCPL-316J-500E chip. The chip is made of high-performance materials with excellent mechanical and electrical properties. By applying mechanical energy to the chip, the coil generates an electromagnetic induction, which creates an electric current.
This innovative, ultra-thin generator solution consists of several MEMS coils integrated with PCB boards that can be as thin as millimeters (mm) in total thickness. Combined with the magnetic ring set, the ultra-thin generator solution can produce power output up to 100 milliwatts (mW) with a finger flick, which is already sufficient for many low-power applications.
Currently, ultra-thin generator solutions based on MEMS coils are mainly used to power low-power devices, which can achieve up to nearly 100 mW of power generation through finger rotation. The specific power generation is related to the speed, and theoretically the power generation is proportional to the square of the speed. This time, the ultra-thin generator solution introduced by Mico Semiconductor includes both single-phase and three-phase structures, in which the single-phase generator solution uses 24 MEMS coils, while the three-phase generator solution uses 21 MEMS coils. A standard ultra-thin generator, shown in Figure 3, has an outer diameter of 46 mm and a thickness of about 5 mm (it can be as thin as 3 mm).
MEMS coil, as a chip-type coil manufactured by Mico Semiconductor based on its unique MEMS-CASTING technology, has created a new category of coil. Micron's ultra-thin generator is an innovative, extended application solution based on MEMS coils. Maims Consulting learned from Maizho Semiconductor that the company will launch more MEMS-based coil application solutions in the future, hoping to provide some new ideas for innovative applications in all walks of life and achieve mass production.
This ultra-thin generator solution offers several advantages. First of all, it is very small in size and can be easily integrated in a variety of portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, smart watches, fitness trackers, etc. Secondly, due to the adoption of MEMS technology, the manufacturing cost of this generator is relatively low and can be mass-produced, thus reducing the overall cost. In addition, the efficiency of this generator is also very high, which can efficiently convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Micron's ultra-thin generator solutions also have a wide range of applications. In addition to portable electronic devices, it can also be applied to wireless sensor networks, medical devices, wearable devices and other fields. By integrating this generator with other sensors or chips, more versatile portable devices can be realized.
