Microsemi introduces single-chip, standardized, synchronous Ethernet solutions
Microsemi Corporation has announced the world's first single-chip, standardized Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) solution that enables synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) transmission over Optical Transport network (OTN) channels without the need for additional frequency conversion phase locked loops (PLL). The new ZL30153 and ZL30154 clock devices support Ethernet clock frequencies and all OTN clock frequencies. Using Microsemi's single-chip solutions for SyncE and OTN applications enables telecom equipment manufacturers to support multiple services on a single network and reduce the cost of clock solutions.

The new ZL30153 and ZL30154 SyncE clock devices support flexible input and output frequencies and are fully SyncE compliant. Microsemi's previous generation of SyncE solutions and competing solutions on the market today only support telecom and Ethernet clock frequencies. The programmable digital PLL built into both devices can be synchronized to any clock frequency from 1 Hz to 750 MHz. This enables Global Positioning System (GPS) signals based on second pulses (PPS) to be used directly as input reference signals. In addition, the programmable synchronizer can generate any clock frequency from 1 Hz to 750 MHz.
The ZL30154 clock device provides two independent digital PLLS for applications that require separate transmit and receive clock paths, while the ZL30153 device uses a single digital PLL for clock synchronization. Both new devices offer higher performance at a much lower cost than competing solutions and require only a low-cost temperature-controlled quartz shaker (TCXO) to achieve ITU-T G.8262 compliance.
