New automotive serial EEPROM in a 2x3mm micro package

     STMicroelectronics' automotive mass-grade serial EEPROM is available in a 2mm x 3mm WFDFPN8 micro-package, offering the largest optional storage capacity in the industry. These memories provide maximum design flexibility when engineers are designing highly integrated body controllers, gateways, and radar and camera modules for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

     The use of discrete serial EEPROM data parameter storage devices helps simplify the design while providing maximum upgrade flexibility. Limited memory packaging and capacity options will limit the effectiveness of the solution and will not be able to perform as well as it should in space-constrained applications. To address this challenge, ST is introducing a new automotive quality grade WFDFPN8 package of 2KB-512KB memory. In addition, the new product also supports I2C and SPI serial interfaces.

     The WFDFPN8 package is very popular in the consumer electronics market, and ST has now developed a high-strength version of the WFDFPN8 product that can operate in automotive environmental conditions. The new product has been tested to AEC-Q100 grade 0 reliability standard and can operate at up to 125°C. Other advantages include a write time of only 4ms and fast storage of parameters; Clock frequencies up to 20MHz enable fast data exchange; Built-in traceability and security features, including software identification of dedicated storage pages and write-lockable protection of sensitive data.
