Qorvo launches a new power multiplier to expand its DOCSIS 3.1 CATV product line

     Qorvo, a leading provider of RF solutions for mobile, infrastructure and aerospace and defense applications, announced the launch of three new power multiplier multi-chip modules (MCM) supporting DOCSIS 3.1 - the RFCM3327, RFCM3328 and QPB8808. Qorvo's latest power multiplier MCM amplifiers offer cable broadband service providers an easy path to DOCSIS 3.1 with maximum design flexibility and functionality, while saving power and reducing board space.

     Kellie Chong, Director of CATV and Broadband Access Products at Qorvo, said: "Our latest power multiplier, MCM, gives customers more tools to deliver more bandwidth and higher output power to more users. In addition, the MCM compact package provides a cost-effective solution that saves up to 70 percent of board space compared to traditional hybrid packages."

     Equipped with temperature detection pins, the MCM is easy to assemble, reduces power consumption and helps better handle printed circuit board reflux. The combination of DC power regulation and current regulation enables operators to achieve intelligent network management and reduce power consumption without sacrificing performance.

     The RFCM3327 and RFCM3328 feature Qorvo's market-leading GaN and SiC processes with excellent thermal conductivity. The RFCM3327 provides 23 dB gain, while the RFCM3328 provides 25 dB gain. Both power multipliers offer the best performance in their class with +63 dBmV power output, and both include external current control for a 20% reduction in total power consumption while meeting linearity specifications.

     The QPB8808 is notable for its compact form factor, which saves up to 70% printed circuit board space compared to competing solutions. Operating in the frequency range 45 MHz to 1218 MHz, this 12V amplifier provides 20.5 dB gain and +58 dBmv power output, and includes different current bias adjustments to maintain high output while reducing power consumption.

     Qorvo achieved over 50% market share * with CATV GAN RF and offers over 60 DOCSIS 3.1-capable components including attenuators, switches, power multiplier amplifiers, front-driver gain units, push-pull amplifiers, and reverse path amplifiers. Qorvo uses highly differentiated in-house developed process technologies, including GaN High electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) technology, to deliver superior linearity, output power and reliability. Qorvo reverse path amplifiers operate at frequencies up to 300MHz, far exceeding the current 204MHz requirements of existing reverse path amplifiers.
