Renesas Electronics offers the highest performance MPU for industrial equipment

     Renesas Electronics has announced the RZ/T2H, the company's highest performing MPU for industrial equipment. Thanks to its powerful application processing and real-time performance, the MPU is able to control industrial robot motors at high speeds and with high precision, up to nine axes. It supports a variety of network communications, including industrial Ethernet, on a single chip. MPU targets industrial controller devices such as PLCS, motion controllers, dcs and cnc.

     With the growing demand for driverless and labor-saving manufacturing, industrial robots such as vertical articulated robots and industrial controller devices are being deployed to accelerate automated production. The new MPU combines all the features and performance needed to develop these applications. Whereas traditional industrial systems require multiple MPUs or combinations of FPGas to control these applications, MPUs can now meet all needs on a single chip. This reduces the number of components and saves time and cost in FPGA program development.

     The device has four Arm Cortex-A55 application cpus operating at a maximum frequency of 1.2GHz. External memory supports 32-bit LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM. Two Cortex-R52 cpus operating at a maximum frequency of 1GHz handle real-time processing, with each core equipped with a total of 576KB of high-capacity tightly coupled memory (TCM). This allows high CPU - and memory-intensive tasks to be performed on a single chip, such as running Linux applications, robot trajectory generation, and PLC sequence processing. At the same time, the RZ/T2H can handle fast and precise real-time control, such as motor control and industrial Ethernet protocol processing.

     In industrial robots, the MPU controls up to nine axis servo motors for high-speed, precise operation. It comes with everything you need for up to nine-axis motor control, including a three-phase PWM timer, a delta-sigma interface for measuring current values and an encoder interface (A-format, EnDat, bis, Hyperface DSL and FA-CODER are all supported). In addition, the peripheral functions for motor control are located on the low-latency Peripheral Port (LLPP) bus of the Cortex-R52 real-time CPU core, allowing high-speed CPU access.

     The MPU has four Ethernet ports, three Gigabit Ethernet MAC (GMAC) ports, and one Ethernet switch. It also supports EtherCAT, PROFINET, Ethernet /IP, OPC UA, and Next Generation Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards. Combined with these Ethernet switches and GMAC, the MPU can support multiple industrial Ethernet controllers and devices, providing flexibility to adapt to the needs of a variety of controllers, such as upper-layer Ethernet communications.

     The device comes with the Renesas Flexible Package (FSP), as well as a long-term supported Linux package. An out-of-the-box multi-axis motor control evaluation solution includes an inverter board that drives a nine-axis motor, a multi-axis motor control package, and a motion utility (motor control software tool). Sample protocols for industrial Ethernet and software PLC packages are also included to kick-start system development.
