ST and Flextronics have launched the world's first zero-no-load power charger platform
STMicroelectronics has partnered with Flextronics, an innovative supply chain solution provider and a leading smartphone and tablet power adapter (adapter) manufacturer dedicated to providing electronic product design, engineering, manufacturing and logistics services to various industries and end markets. Jointly developed a mobile product charger platform based on Italian-French semiconductor multimode power management controller. The new platform uses the industry's most efficient power management architecture to achieve two design goals: zero no-load power consumption and excellent dynamic load regulation. Important breakthroughs have been made in the application of charging technology.
More than 2.4 billion portable devices, mobile phones, tablets and desktops were estimated to be sold in 2014 , and if these products are not unplugged after charging, the charger left in the socket can waste 300 MW of electricity , which is more than 2.5 billion kWh of electricity per year. The solution developed in collaboration between ST and Flextronics could completely solve this power waste problem, saving at least 200 million gallons of oil per year.
The charging platform is based on the STCH01 controller and has a high degree of functional integration, making it an ideal choice for the development of micro high power density smart phone and tablet power adapters. St Power management controllers use an innovative architecture that minimizes converter sizes and reduces the need for peripheral components, thereby reducing manufacturing costs for equipment manufacturers.
