ST's STM32 ARM Cortex-M0 microcontroller significantly improves integration and user experience
ST's latest STM32F091 ARM® Cortex-M0 microcontroller overcomes the limitations of similar products currently positioned for economical applications. Large capacity on-chip memory and up to 8 Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (USART) are available, saving multiplexed communication ports for applications such as car audio or three-phase meters.
The STM32F091 microcontroller integrates up to 256KB of flash memory and 32KB of SRAM memory in a single chip, which is enough to implement a Java stack and is capable of running complex application software that is usually only available for large storage capacity or expensive products, resulting in a satisfying user experience. The full range of products, including the economical 48-pin microcontroller, is equipped with 6 USART, Three of the USARTs support smart card, Local Interconnect Network (LIN), Infrared Data Association (IrDA), and Modbus[1] modes.
With a flexible power architecture, the analog circuit includes a 12-bit 1.0µs ADC with a maximum operating voltage of 3.6V and a dual-channel 12-bit DAC to maximize dynamic range, while the digital circuit can operate at lower voltages to minimize power consumption. In addition, the I/O pins of the microcontroller can be powered separately and connected directly to a low-voltage companion chip, such as an application processor, without the need for a level shifter.
The STM32F091 has built-in CAN2.0A/B support for in-vehicle infotainment applications and industrial control applications that control automotive networks. In addition, designers can develop innovative applications with integrated touch controllers on the chip, as well as SysTick timers and real-time clocks, which improve real-time processing performance and provide time, date or calendar functions.
The STM32F091 is available in a variety of different packages, including 48-pin and 64-pin packages, as well as the QFP100 package for smart meters in China, which is compliant with salt fog corrosion regulations. The STM32F091CBT6 comes in a QFP48 package with 128KB of internal flash memory
