SiTime has introduced Chorus Automotive Clock Generators – the industry’s first fully integrated clock system-on-a-chip (ClkSoC) with built-in fault monitoring mechanisms for the complete clock generation signal path. The FailSafe technology in Chorus automotive provides a new approach to the industry, integrating a MEMS resonator, oscillator and advanced safety mechanisms into a single package.

     SiTime has introduced the Chorus Automotive Clock Generator, the industry's first fully integrated System on a Clock Chip (ClkSoC) with built-in fault detection for a complete clock-generated signal path. Chorus Automotive's FailSafe technology offers the industry a new way to integrate MEMS resonators, oscillators, and advanced safety mechanisms into a single package.

     This integration simplifies the system timing architecture and reduces functional safety development time by six weeks. Compared to standalone oscillators, hardware designers can achieve up to 10 times better performance and critical diagnostic coverage at half the size, making functional safety metrics easier to achieve.

     Time challenges for a new generation of car design.Automotive engineers face unique challenges when implementing SDVS. Car buyers want a seamless user experience like a smartphone, but without compromising safety. As cars become more automated, hardware failures aren't just annoying; They can also have serious consequences for life and property.

     The ultimate SDV is a rugged data center on wheels. The sdv receives real-time information from sensors (cameras, liDAR, radar, etc.). People expect cars to be able to process data and make immediate decisions, prioritizing the safety of those inside and on the road. This HPC infrastructure supports 1,000 teraflops of operations (TOPS). It requires a synchronized, precise timing network that guarantees reliable performance in shock, vibration and extreme weather, with a service life of decades.

     The company brings its leadership in rugged MEMS timing technology and high-precision timing networks for data center synchronization to the automotive sector. With an industry-first wide operating temperature range of -40 ° C to 125 ° C, Chorus automotive is uniquely positioned to eliminate any thermal bottlenecks in the design of safety-critical modules.

     Chorus automotive orchestrates complex timing for automotive computing and sensor systems by providing up to four configurable differential or up to eight single-ended low-slant outputs. Its FailSafe technology simplifies functional safety design by providing programmable end-to-end safety monitors. It complies with PCI Express (PCIe) Generation 1-6 standards, has a spread-spectrum option, an on-chip regulator with excellent power noise suppression, and a phase-configurable and programmable tilt output.

     Chorus can alert the external security manager MCU of any clock failure via a configurable universal I/O (GPIO) pin. The serial interface (I2C or SPI) can be used to read internal registers, including the status of internal monitoring functions. These devices also use the in-system Configuration (ISC) mode to modify the device configuration and each output behavior through the serial interface, thus promoting a high degree of flexibility.
