The new Cypress Automotive LED driver delivers powerful performance and minimizes the headlight system material bill

     Cypress Semiconductor announced the launch of a new automotive LED driver that not only reduces the size of the headlamp system, but also increases its cost effectiveness. The automotive LED drive model, S6BL112A, is the first in the industry to achieve synchronous control, with industry-leading conversion efficiency to ensure stable lighting system performance. Capable of driving leds at a switching frequency of 2.1MHz, the device enables a compact solution using a small, inexpensive inductor that reduces the physical size of the system and reduces the cost of material (BOM). Together with Cypress's Traveo™ microcontroller (MCU) and Power management IC(PMIC), this LED driver constitutes the industry's best automotive headlight lighting solution.

     With an input voltage range of 4.5-42 V, the Cypress S6BL112A automotive LED driver ADAPTS to a variety of extreme operating conditions, such as cold start (excessive current caused by starting a car engine at a low temperature) and load drop (surge voltage occurs when the battery is disconnected during engine operation and powered by an alternator). The LED driver also helps optimize the electrical system protection design, with system safety features such as underload current detection, overload current and voltage protection, as well as shielding from nasty LED OPEN diagnostics during cold starts. In addition, its synchronous operation function also eliminates the dimming instability caused by low input voltage.

     The S6BL112A is a single-channel 2A output Buck LED driver that supports analog and PWM dimming for precise control of light brightness. The switching frequency can be set between 205 kHz-2.1 MHz, and the output current accuracy is up to +/-2%. The device allows rise slope control without an external filter, reducing the generation of electromagnetic interference that damages peripherals.
