Vishay introduces a new range of PowerPAK packages in three sizes
Vishay introduces a new family of VRPower integrated DrMOS power level solutions in three PowerPAK package sizes to address design challenges in high-power and high-performance polyphase POL applications.
Vishay Siliconix SiC789 and SiC788 are available in MLP66-40L packaging and space occupancy according to the Intel 4.0 DrMOS standard (6mm x 6mm); The SiC620 and SiC620R come in a new 5mm x 5mm MLP55-31L package; The SiC521 comes in a 4.5mm x 3.5mm MLP4535-22L package. These devices are suitable for computing and storage devices that require high currents and limited board space, telecom switches and routers, graphics cards, and DC/DC converters in Bitcoin miners.
The SiC789 and SiC788's 6 mm x 6 mm package facilitates upgrades to higher output power from designs that already feature Intel standard DrMOS 4.0 slots, while the new 5mm x 5mm and 3.5mm x 4.5mm slots are ideal for board space constraints. New designs with more smaller size voltage regulators are needed. The PowerPAK MLP55-31L and MLP4535-22L also feature several design improvements and enhancements that improve the parasitic effects and thermal performance of the package, taking full advantage of the dynamic performance of Vishay's state-of-the-art Gen IV MOSFETs.
For example, the SiC620R uses a double-sided cooling MLP55-31L package, which can output 70A current in a typical polyphase buck converter with an efficiency of 95%. By cooling the device on the front and back of the package, the loss was reduced by 20% while occupying 33% less space than in the previous generation package. In the external power supply of laptops and servers, communication switches and game console motherboards, the 3.5mm x 4.5mm SiC521 can continuously output 25A current with a peak current of 40A.
The VRPower family of gate driver ics is compatible with a variety of PWM controllers and supports 5V and 3.3V three-state PWM logic. In addition, the driver IC integrates a diode simulation mode circuit to improve efficiency under light load conditions, and adaptive dead-time control helps further improve efficiency at all load points. Device protection features include undervoltage lock (UVLO), breakdown protection, and overheat alarm to alert the system if the junction temperature is too high.
