Vishay introduces new 40V TrenchFET power MOSFET

     Vishay Intertechnology announced the release of the new 8mm x 8mm x 1.8mm PowerPAK 8x8L in 40V TrenchFET power MOSFET-SQJQ402E, The goal is to provide alternatives to common D2PAK and DPAK packages for automotive applications that achieve high current and save space and power. The 40V TrenchFET power MOSFETs are the industry's first 8mm x 8mm placeholder, AEC-Q101-certified MOSFETs in an 8mm x 8mm package with gull-wing leads that release mechanical stress.

     Operating at +175 ° C, the SQJQ402E provides the durability and reliability required for automotive applications such as motor drive, electric power steering, transmission control and fuel injection drive. The internal structure of the PowerPAK 8x8L package minimizes inductance, with a maximum on-resistance of 1.5mΩ and 1.8mΩ at 10V and 4.5V, and a continuous drain current of up to 200A. The SQJQ402E demonstrates Vishay's MOSFETs, which allow designers to leverage the benefits of this package in a wide range of automotive applications.

     The device also uses gull wing leads specifically designed to reduce PCB solder joint stress, which is caused by wide temperature operation and is often encountered in automotive applications. This approach has been used successfully in Vishay's smaller 5mm x 6mm PowerPAK SO-8L package. The D2PAK and DPAK packages contain lead, while the PowerPAK 8x8L goes beyond the current RoHS standard and is completely lead-free.

     To save PCB space, reduce costs, and enable smaller and lighter modules in applications that typically require multiple MOSFETs, the SQJQ402E has similar on-resistance and higher continuous current to devices packaged in D2PAK, while occupying 60 percent less space and 60 percent less height. Compared to DPAK packaged devices, SQJQ402E has half the on-resistance, twice the current, 21% lower height, and only 12% more space, which effectively reduces power consumption.
