Vishay introduces new SMD packaged ultra-thin drives

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of the VOL3120, an ultra-thin 2.5A IGBT and MOSFET driver in a new SMD package. Vishay Semiconductors is a small footprint with a height of 2.5mm and a minimum clearance and external creepage distance of 8mm. In addition to its small size, the high isolation voltage of the VIORM and VIOTM, 1050V and 8000V respectively, makes it ideal for operating at higher operating voltages or in more polluted conditions, such as motor drives, alternative energy sources, welding equipment and other high operating voltage applications.

     The VOL3120 is 30% lower in height than standard DIP-packaged devices, saving space and enabling flat form factors such as induction cooktops and small size inverters in civil solar cells and motor drives. The VOL3120 not only offers excellent isolation, but also the best electrical performance available today. The device's overvoltage lock protects the IGBT/MOSFET from failures, suppressing common-mode transients in excess of 48kV/μs, and eliminating noise from low-voltage areas on the PCB.

     With a maximum operating loss current of 2.5mA, the VOL3120 is a practical choice for power applications requiring high frequency operation. With a typical delay of less than 250ns and a typical rise and fall time of 100ns, the device is ideal for applications requiring fast switching of IGBTs and MOSFET.

     The driver can operate at 15V ~ 32V supply voltage and industrial temperature of -40℃ ~ +100℃. The VOL3120 has a moisture sensitivity rating (MSL) up to J-STD-020 Level 1 and unlimited storage life. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
