A new generation of ultrasonic chip E524.08/09 for automotive ultrasonic parking assist system

     German company ELMOS recently announced the launch of a new generation of ultrasonic chips E524.08 and E524.09 for automotive ultrasonic parking assistance systems. In addition to the automotive industry, the chips can also be used in industrial applications such as industrial robots, liquid level measurement, and distance measurement. Both chips comply with the AECQ-100 standard. And has been mass produced.

     The chip was developed with a special emphasis on optimal distance measurement. The corrected signal path now supports distance measurement between 10cm and 600cm. By optimizing the hardware system and good environmental conditions, longer distances can be supported. In addition to the range measurement function, the chip also supports additional functions such as STC(sensitivity time control), ATG(automatic threshold generation), NFTG(Near threshold generation) and FTC algorithms to support better adaptability and optimized performance for applications that customers expect. Compared to the original system, the new EPD(Echo Peak Detection) can significantly improve the accuracy of distance measurement.

     Using these chips is very easy, many configurations can be quickly implemented through the communication interface, and there is no need to develop additional software to control the ultrasonic sensor and evaluate the received signal, all of which are integrated inside the chip. To ensure flexibility for customer applications, the optimized I/O interface offers up to 3 configurable measurement ranges, such as near, medium and long range configurations, which can be switched between the two measurements, significantly reducing system response time.

     The chip has the functions of power supply voltage monitoring, chip temperature, communication error detection, delay time measurement and frequency deviation to ensure the reliable operation of the sensor.The relevant application parameter Settings can be stored in EEPROM during production line calibration. In order to facilitate evaluation and debugging, relevant characteristic parameters such as processed echo values and threshold curves can be read in digital or analog form.

     The communication connection between the chip and the control unit can be selected in 2-wire or 3-wire version. The 2-wire interface (E524.08) provides bidirectional communication with data modulated over the power cord. The 3-wire interface (E524.09) has a dedicated I/O wire for data transmission.
