Analog Devices introduces the quad-channel, 2.4-Gsps, 16-digit DAC AD9154

     Analog Devices, the world's leading provider of high-performance signal processing solutions, recently introduced the quad-channel, 2.4-Gsps, 16-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) AD9154, which offers industry-leading dynamic range performance in the 100 MHz to 300 MHz band for use in multiple IF transmitters. The highly integrated four-channel, 16-bit DAC AD9154 is the only device in its class with integrated PLL(phase-locked loop) and eight-channel JESD204B interfaces on chip.

     This combination of features enables designers to meet all design requirements for multi-carrier GSM and LTE transmitters for wireless macro bases, point-to-point microwave radios, military radios, and radio test equipment with a single device. This latest converter incorporates a range of features optimized for complex IF emission applications, including complex digital modulation, input signal power detection, and gain, phase, and offset compensation.

     The four-channel, 2.4 GSPS, 16-bit DAC AD9154 is designed to up-convert a pair of I/Q digital input signals to generate a complex IF signal at the input end of a pair of on-chip DAC cores. The new device features multiple interpolation modes that increase the sampling rate of digital signals to Nyquist frequencies, enabling simpler and less costly emitter filters at the DAC analog output. In addition, the AD9154 integrates digital signal error correction for the upconverter of the orthogonal modulator to eliminate RF local feedthrough and interference sideband.

     The AD9154 converter design uses an eight-channel JESD204B interface to simplify board layout by providing deterministic delay and multi-device synchronization for radio transmitters using multiple antennas, which are increasingly common in wireless base stations, radar, and military radio communications.

     The quad-channel, 16-bit DAC AD9154 extends ADI's transmitter capability to the 100 MHz to 300 MHz range. The series also has a four-channel, 16-bit DAC, the AD9144, which operates from DC to 100 MHz; A 16-bit, dual-channel DAC will also be available in 2015.
