Cypress expands Traveo's family of automotive MCUS

     Cypress Semiconductor announced a new addition to its Traveo microcontroller (MCU) family that provides automakers with a cost-effective platform for implementing 2D and 3D graphics and advanced features such as Kanban, head-up displays and HVAC systems in compact vehicles. The S6J32BA and S6J32DA series are based on the S6J324C series of Traveo 2-D graphics MCUS and the S6J326C series of 3-D graphics MCUS for mid-size cars introduced by Spansion in October 2014.

     The Traveo family offers the latest 2D and 3D graphics capabilities and is optimized to enable detailed, vehicle-specific graphics functions without increased power and material costs. As the first ARM® Cortex-R5 trunked MCU capable of handling 3D graphics, Cypress's graphics engine saves more memory, provides more security features and rich graphics capabilities without the need for external video RAM. As a result, manufacturers can take advantage of lower overall system costs to popularize advanced driving experiences once reserved for luxury cars.

     The new Cypress Traveo S6J32BA and S6J32DA product families include ARM Cortex-R5 processors, 1MB of internal flash memory, 1MB of internal video RAM, Enhanced Security Hardware Extensions (eSHE) and the industry-leading HyperBus™ interface. This interface seamlessly connects HyperBus memory such as HyperFlash™ and HyperRAM™. The S6J32BA and S6J32DA series are pin-compatible with their predecessors, the S6J324C and S6J326C series, giving customers the flexibility to upgrade without modifying the circuit board. In addition to the graphics capabilities, there is an advanced sound system that includes a 16-bit audio DAC and a multi-channel mixer.
