Cypress introduces new single-chip automotive MCU solutions for hybrid dashboards, head-up display systems and traditional instruments

     Cypress Semiconductor announced the introduction of the new S6J32xE family of its Traveo automotive MCU(microcontroller) products, which provides greater storage for program code and graphical display Settings to support hybrid dashboard applications. The new highly integrated S6J32xE family of devices provides a single-chip solution to drive head-up display systems and traditional dashboard graphics, and is scalable thanks to Cypress's low pin count HyperBus storage interface. Today's new series expands Cypress's extensive automotive portfolio with a wide range of performance options in MCUS, storage, radio frequency, capacitive touch solutions, power management ics (PMIC) and other technologies.

     The Traveo S6J32xE family comes with up to 4MB of high-capacity embedded flash memory, 512 KB of RAM and 2 MB of video RAM, as well as a 240 MHz ARM® Cortex®-R5 core. This family of MCUS can support up to two 12-pin HyperBus storage interfaces, which can significantly improve the read and write performance of graphics data and other data or code. The device can use a HyperBus interface to connect two pieces of memory for Firmware over the air upgrade (FOTA), enabling software patches, features and applications to be downloaded from vehicles already in service. This family of MCUS integrates low voltage differential signal (LVDS) video output to provide a suitable interface for connecting external displays such as thin film transistors (TFT). This family of MCUS supports all automotive networking standards used in instrument systems, including CAN-FD(Controller Local Area Network Bus - Flexible Data Transfer) protocol and Ethernet AVB protocol.

     Traveo, a new addition to the S6J32xE family, integrates enhanced Security Hardware Extensions (eSHE) for robust security performance. The HyperBus interface works seamlessly with Cypress's HyperFlash™ and HyperRAM™ storage, and Traveo MCUS provide read/write bandwidth of up to 200MBps per channel. The MCU includes a 50-channel 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a 12-channel multifunction serial interface and I2S interface, and an AUDIO digital-to-analog converter (AUDIO DAC) to produce the high-quality composite sound required by today's dashboard systems. While the Media LB interface supports traditional media communication systems, its support for Ethernet AVB improves the bandwidth of multimedia applications and reduces the programming time. The S6J32xE family supports a wider range of ambient temperatures from -40 ˚C to +105˚C.
