Cypress introduces the PSoC 6, the industry's lowest power consumption and most flexible microcontroller architecture
Cypress Semiconductor Corporation announced the launch of PSoC 6, its latest microcontroller (MCU) architecture designed specifically for the Internet of Things (IoT). The architecture is based on ultra-low power 40nm processing technology, the lowest power consumption and most flexible solution in the industry, and integrates the security features required for the next generation of iot devices. The architecture perfectly balances the needs of performance, cost and power consumption, filling the gaps in related fields. The dual-core ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0+ architectures enable designers to optimize both power and performance. With its unique PSoC architecture and easy-to-use software-configurable peripherals, the PSoC 6 enables engineers to design innovative next-generation iot devices.
Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of Cypress, said: "As a leader in wireless solutions for the Internet of Things, we were the first to recognize that our customers needed a processor solution that could better balance performance and power consumption with security features. Our PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture is designed to address these issues and adds to our extensive portfolio of embedded system solutions for iot."
Set the industry-leading benchmark for the latest ultra-low power consumption
Cypress's proprietary ultra-low-power 40nm SONOS processing technology enables the PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture to run on ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores with 22? A/MHz and 15? A/MHz operating current for industry-leading power consumption. With dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) technology, the PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture provides the processing power needed to ensure both core performance and low power consumption. The dual-core architecture implements a power-optimized system design, in which the auxiliary kernel can be used to reduce the power consumption of the main kernel and put the main kernel to sleep.
Trusted solutions help improve iot security
The PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture provides a hardware-based Trusted execution environment (TEE) with secure boot capabilities and the ability to integrate secure data storage to protect firmware, applications, and secure assets such as keys. The PSoC 6 executes a variety of industry-standard symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms, including elliptic curve encryption (ECC), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and secure hash algorithms (SHA 1, 2, 3), in an integrated hardware coprocessor designed to share compute-intensive tasks. The architecture supports multiple synchronous security environments without the need for external storage or security elements, and provides scalable secure storage for multiple independent user-defined security policies.
John Weil, vice president of Cypress's Microcontroller business unit, said: "Every connected device has a potential network hazard. With so many potential pitfalls, security becomes Paramount, and the security design of iot devices at the lowest level becomes a top priority. "We designed PSoC 6 to help our customers protect their products from cyber attacks, while enabling them to create unprecedented innovative iot devices using the flexible, easy-to-use PSoC architecture."
Enable innovative iot devices like never before with intuitive software support
In addition to top-notch flexibility and ease of use, the PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture will drive the creation of differentiated, forward-looking iot devices. Software-defined peripherals can be used to create custom analog front ends (AFEs), or digital interfaces for innovative system components such as e-ink displays. The architecture offers flexible wireless connectivity options, including fully integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.0 and others. The PSoC 6 microcontroller architecture features the latest generation of Cypress's industry-leading CapSense? Capacitive sensing technology supports powerful and stable advanced touch and gesture interfaces. Cypress PSoC Creator? The architecture is supported by the Integrated Design Environment (IDE) and various ARM ecosystems.
