Diodes Single-channel load switches offer 4.5V to 12V input range and adjustable ramp rates in 2mm x 2mm packages

     Diodes Incorporated introduces the single-channel load switch AP22850, a new product offering operating range from 4.5V to up to 12V with near zero static current suitable for use in battery-powered ultrabooks, tablets and ebooks. The AP22850 handles switching power supply sorting with up to 8A load current, adjustable start function, and discharge rate. Its highly heat-dissipating 2mm x 2mm x 0.8mm W-DFN2020-8 package saves space and maximizes the usable area of the board.

     With the growing portable computer market, the demand for integrated high-efficiency load switches is also increasing. These switches must be able to set ratings for continuous output current operation, and provide good power supply indications and adjustable discharge functions to meet the requirements of distributed power control and low-voltage differential signals.

     The AP22850's P-channel MOSFETs, equipped with on-resistance typically as low as 20mΩ, provide these functions and performance in an efficient manner. The new device can handle input voltages up to 12V and output currents up to 8A, and consumes only 1.2nA of static (no-load) current.

     The AP22850 eliminates the need for external gate pull-up resistors and can suppress fast input transient responses from coupling to output with integrated circuits, helping to reduce bill of material costs and board size.
