Lattice Semiconductor welcomes new members to its automotive-grade product family
Lattice Semiconductor, Inc., a leading provider of customized intelligent interconnect solutions to the market, announced the arrival of new members to the company's automotion-grade product line-ECP5 and CrossLink programmable devices tailored for interface bridging applications. This is further evidence of Lattice's continued commitment to the automotive-grade market, providing optimized interconnect solutions for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment applications, enabling the bridging of emerging image sensor and video display interfaces with traditional automotive interfaces.
Rob Lineback, senior market research analyst at IC Insights, said: "The CMOS image sensor market is expected to see steady growth over the next five years. We predict that automotive systems will be the fastest growing application area for CMOS image sensors, with a CAGR of 55% through 2020, reaching a $2.2 billion market, or 14% of the total projected $15.2 billion market."
The huge advantage of mobile application processors, the rapid adoption of low-cost image sensors and displays, and the widespread adoption of MIPI standard interfaces have driven innovation in automotive applications over the past few years. Ideally, every component in the system would be connected directly to the application processor, but this is often not the case. As more and more automotive applications adopt mobile platforms, this problem becomes more complicated. Interface bridging devices solve this problem by supporting a wide range of interfaces and protocols, including MIPI D-PHY, MIPI CSI-2, MIPI DSI, and a range of traditional video interfaces and protocols. Such as CMOS, RGB, MIPI DPI, MIPI DBI, SubLVDS, SLVS, LVDS, and OpenLDI.
Deepak Boppana, Director of Semiconductor Marketing at Lattice, said: "We can see the rapid adoption of cameras and sensors in the automotive industry, which help automotive products keep pace with technological developments and meet the needs of ADAS and infotainment systems. This trend also brings about interface mismatches between mobile image sensors, application processors, and embedded displays in related applications. "Our ECP5 and CrossLink devices enable automotive customers to adopt cameras and displays with the latest mobile interface technology, reducing total system cost, power consumption and size while accelerating the next generation of products to market."
