Microchip introduces a new 5 GHz power amplifier module based on IEEE 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard

Microchip Technology announced the availability of the new SST11CP22 5 GHz Power amplifier Module (PAM) compliant with the IEEE 802.11ac Ultra High data rate Wi-Fi standard. The new PAM has a linear output power of 19 dBm at 1.8% dynamic EVM(error vector amplitude) and MCS9 80 MHz bandwidth modulation.

     Microchip Technology Inc., a global leader in integrated microcontroller, mixed-signal, emulator and flash memory patented solutions, announced the launch of the new SST11CP225 compliant with IEEE 802.11ac ultra-high data rate Wi-Fi standard GHz Power Amplifier module (PAM). The new PAM has a linear output power of 19 dBm at 1.8% dynamic EVM(error vector amplitude) and MCS9 80 MHz bandwidth modulation.

     In addition, the SST11CP22 provides 20 dBm linear power for 802.11a/n applications at 3% EVM, meets the spectrum template requirements for 802.11a communications at up to 24 dBm, and has an RF harmonic output below -45 dBm/MHz at this output power value. This makes it easier for the board to meet FCC regulations. It is critical for designers of Wi-Fi MIMO access points, routers, and set-top box systems to be able to achieve the highest data rate and maximum coverage while minimizing current consumption.

     The SST11CP22's low EVM and high linear power make MIMO operations easier and significantly extend the reach of 802.11ac systems with ultra-high data rate transmission modes. The module comes in a space-saving 20-pin 4 mm x 4 mm QFN package and contains an output harmonic suppression filter with 50 ohm impedance matching - only four external elements are required. The new device is not only easy to use, but also greatly reduces the board size. In addition, the integrated linear power detector enables precise output power control over the temperature range and a 2:1 output mismatch. These features are important for applications that operate at high data rates, such as 802.11ac standard Wi-Fi set-top boxes, routers, access points, and wireless video streaming devices.
