NXP's new touch-sensitive solution simplifies user interface design for iot applications
NXP Semiconductors announced and demonstrated its new touch solution at the NXP FTF Technology Forum. The new solution combines dedicated touch software with the touch Sensitive Interface (TSI) module available on the Kinetis KE15Z MCU and comes with a complete set of tools that enable designers to easily add touch interface designs to iot applications, including home appliances, smart buildings, industrial control machines, and more.
Adding touch capabilities to a user interface is an extremely challenging task, as there are many factors that need to be considered to achieve a best-in-class user experience. NXP Touch solutions address these challenges, reducing the complexity of adding touch capabilities to speed time to market. The key features of NXP Touch solutions are as follows:
● Two operating modes (self-capacitive and mutual capacitive)
● Excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
● Pre-certified and tested hardware, including IEC61000-4-6 certification for 3V and 10V
● Resistance to water and other liquids (waterproof)
● High sensitivity and resolution
● Optimized software (including NXP Touch Library and SDK touch API support)

The Kinetis KE15Z MCU's easy-to-integrate hardware is pre-certified for electromagnetic compatibility, water resistance and immunity, helping to shorten the design cycle. The powerful Kinetis KE15Z MCUS comply with IEC61000-4-2/-4-4/-4-6 and IEC60730 Class B standards, ensuring that device voltage and temperature are kept within safety parameters, thus providing safety protection for products and consumers at the end of the design. In addition, NXP Touch solutions integrate automatic adjustment and parameter configuration, including touch sensitivity, touch response time, and power consumption, making it easy for developers to create code.
NXP Touch software is optimized for the Kinetis KE15Z MCU and its integrated touch-sensitive interface hardware module. The software is integrated in the MCUXpresso development environment for easy development. The FRDM-KE15Z hardware development platform also supports the solution.
