New color conversion laser mode

     Ames Osram, a leading global optical solutions provider, and Crytur, a leading global optical equipment manufacturer, announced the launch of the MonaLIGHT laser module from Crytur, Combines Ames Osram's PLPT9 450LB_E blue laser diode with Crytur's new phosphor conversion technology. Crytur's MonaLIGHT B01 module generates an incoherent beam of high-power visible light. Such beams can be coupled into optical fibers or light guides more efficiently than leds.

     The module is based on Ames Osram's powerful blue laser diode PLPT9 450LB_E (5W, TO90 metal canister type package) and is combined with a special transmission type phosphor converter manufactured by Crytur. Unlike conventional phosphor converters that scatter laser beams, Crytur phosphor shapes the beam into a narrow Angle and converts the blue light of the laser diode into a broad spectrum visible light output (spectral bandwidth: 500 nm -650 nm).

     The MonaLIGHT module is capable of providing peak light intensity up to 7,000 CD that cannot be achieved with LED technology. The electro-optical conversion efficiency is at least 80lm/W when the luminous flux is 1100lm. The module's beam has a narrow 8° viewing Angle and a very low light concentration. 0.2mm2sr. Ideal for space - or weight-constrained applications, the MonaLIGHT module is only 12mm in diameter, 24.1mm long and weighs 18g. MonaLIGHT offers higher optical efficiency at a lower cost than conventional laser modules. In addition, the light output of MonaLIGHT module does not produce speckle effect.

     MonaLIGHT's modular construction enables Crytur to configure output to meet specific customer requirements. Customer specified optical components such as bandpass spectral filters, light guides and lenses can be built into the module. High integration enables customers to build very compact and efficient optical components. This makes the module ideal for many applications, including scientific instruments (such as visible or fluorescent microscopes), machine vision systems, and head-up displays in avionics systems, to name a few.
