Omron's E3AS family of TOF/ Background suppression sensors support flexible line and problem applications

Omron's E3AS photoelectric sensor improves part detection, especially when part characteristics change using time of flight (TOF) technology. Traditional triangulation methods are challenged by changing component colors, exotic profiles and varying reflectance. TOF technology detects objects based solely on the distance between them and the sensor, so it is not affected by changes in color or reflectivity.

In addition to the TOF technology, the E3AS sensor has a special sensing range of 1.5 meters and comes in a compact metal or plastic body size. The combination of TOF, long sensing distance, and compact size makes the sensor suitable for a wide range of applications and space-constrained locations. To address a variety of different user scenarios, Omron employs IP67, IP69K, IP67G, Ecolab, and proprietary lens coatings to prevent liquid or granular debris from entering and accumulating to ensure the sensor works with less lens cleaning and reduced downtime.

The E3AS supports IIoT and IO-Link, which provides configuration and output monitoring. Output monitoring in the E3AS-F model takes the form of distance output, allowing the user to roughly measure the distance of an object. The combination of TOF technology, long sensing distances, environmental protection, and IO-Link capabilities addresses a wide range of different component inspection scenarios and problem applications.
