Power Integrations introduces the new LinkSwitch-TN2 switching power supply IC

     Power Integrations introduces the LinkSwitch™-TN2 off-line switching power Supply IC, a new device for non-isolated power supply applications with output current up to 360 mA. The LinkSwitch™-TN2 device can be used to design buck, buck - boost or non-isolated flyback topological converters for high precision, high efficiency and excellent no-load performance. The new device incorporates new safety protection features, including input and output overvoltage protection and a highly reliable MOSFETs with 725 V breakdown voltage to provide robust output short-circuit and overheat protection against input surges and voltage surges. Its applications include appliances, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), industrial control, smart home (IOT) and electricity meter systems, and are particularly suitable for products sold to India and other countries or regions with poor grid stability.

     LinkSwitch-TN2 IC's voltage adjustment accuracy is better than -/+ 3%. This high accuracy allows the designer to eliminate the post-regulator, helping to reduce the BOM number, improve efficiency, and reduce size. The new IC requires only 20 more components to complete the buck converter design and can be configured to use commercially available standard inductors, further reducing costs and simplifying the supply chain.

     The new devices are extremely energy efficient in low-power applications, such as over 80% efficiency in 12 V/120 mA (1.4 W) step-down designs. The LinkSwitch-TN2 design typically provides excellent efficiency over the entire load range, with no-load power consumption of less than 30 mW in step-down designs and less than 10 mW in non-isolated flyback designs. For the Total Energy Consumption (TEC) standard, which specifies budget limits for energy consumption in each operating mode, the device is an easy tool for designers to cope with. LinkSwitch-TN2's efficiency benefits make it easy for manufacturers to design power supplies that meet global product ENERGY efficiency standards, including the U.S. Department of Energy, the European Commission ErP Ecodesign Directive, the California Energy Commission, and ENERGY STAR.
