ST's new mount smart low-power module saves space on energy-efficient motor drive circuits

     The SLLIMM™-nano IPM series adds five new space-saving mount Smart Power modules (IPMs) offering IGBT or MOSFET output options for motor built-in drives or other space-constrained drives, with outputs ranging from low power to up to 100W.

     The new module has high on-off and switching efficiency, especially in hard switching circuits up to 20kHz. By managing the switching voltage and current rise rates (dV/dt, di/dt), the internal gate drive circuit is able to suppress electromagnetic radiation (EMI) to a minimum. High thermal efficiency package improves product reliability by supporting a heatsink free design, while 2.7mm creepage distance and 2.0mm electrical clearance ensure safe isolation in a compact dual-in-line SMD package. Module pin configuration Re-optimizes design to simplify board layout.

     A wide range of home appliances and industrial equipment, such as small fans, electric roller blinds, refrigerator compressors, dishwashers, sewage pumps, hot water circulation pumps, and general low-power motors, can benefit from the small size, high energy efficiency, high reliability, safety and low noise of ST's new IPM modules.

     In addition to integrated gate driver circuits and 500V MOSFET or 600V IGBT/ continuous-current diode arrays, other features include a backup op amp and a comparator, allowing designers to develop advanced current detection and overcurrent protection with minimal external components. The block module has built-in safety functions such as high-speed error detection intelligent shutdown, interlock protection and undervoltage lock protection, and the internal bootstrap diode simplifies the power supply design of the grid control circuit of the module.

     The new SLLIMM-nano power modules are STIPNS1M50T-H, STIPNS2M50T-H, STIPNS2M50-H, STGIPNS3H60T-H, and STGIPNS3HD60-H respectively, and the rated current options can be 1A, 2A, or 3A (25°C). All products are manufactured in a one-time molded NSDIP-26L dual in-line surface mount. The engineering sample will be available today and mass production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2017.
