STMicroelectronics Built-in Security Module Automotive processor protects Internet cars against cyber threats

     STMicroelectronics is leading the market for Internet vehicle information security protection with its latest automotive processors with built-in dedicated amine full modules. There are already millions of connected cars on the road, and industry analysts predict that by 2020, the total number of connected cars will exceed 250 million. Aftermarket equipment such as vehicle information service controllers, Wi-Fi hotspot terminals, Bluetooth device-supported car Internet services, and on-board diagnostic (OBD) interface controllers can improve vehicle safety, driver and passenger efficiency, and social entertainment functions. The new Telemaco3P in-vehicle information network processor (STA1385 and its derivatives) is the first automotive microprocessor on the market to integrate a powerful isolated dedicated hardware security module (HSM) that acts like a standalone security guard, guarding data exchange and performing encryption and verification functions. The HSM module is responsible for verifying the authenticity of the information received by the car and the authenticity of external devices trying to connect to the car, preventing network eavesdropping.

     With the on-chip HSM module, the Telemaco3P processor is ahead of today's common general-purpose application processors in connected automotive systems, which lack the security features implemented by dedicated hardware. St's new products are extremely reliable and robust, with a maximum rated operating temperature of 105C, and are suitable for installation locations where ambient temperatures can be extremely high, for example, in smart antennas that can be mounted directly above or below the roof of a car.
