Texas Instruments introduces the industry's highest precision single-chip millimeter wave sensor portfolio
Texas Instruments is bringing unprecedented precision and intelligence to a wide range of applications, including automotive, factory and building automation, and medical markets. TI's new MMwave single-chip complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) portfolio includes five solutions across two product families of 76 to 81GHz sensors with complete end-to-end development platforms. The AWR1x and IWR1x sensor portfolio offers sensing accuracy up to three times higher than millimeter wave solutions currently on the market, and samples are now available. The perfect combination of precision analog design technology and digital signal processing enables designers to implement intelligent and contactless sensing in their systems.
Key features and benefits of the millimeter wave sensor portfolio
• Highly integrated: With a fully integrated CMOS single chip (which integrates the best-in-class digital signal processor (DSP) and microcontroller (MCU) or only one MCU or DSP), designers can choose the best processing power for their needs. Each chip is capable of providing intelligent, high-precision independent sensing with range resolution of less than 4 cm, range accuracy down to less than 50 microns, and range up to 300 meters.
• Comprehensive product range: A portfolio of five devices enables designers to choose the right solution to meet their design needs, while reducing power consumption and board area by 50%.
• Highly Intelligent: TI's portfolio of millimeter-wave 76 to 81GHz single-chip sensors dynamically adapt to changing situations and conditions, support multiple functional modes to avoid false positives and provide a wide range of sensing for multiple applications.
• Environmental flexibility: IWR1x and AWR1x millimeter wave sensors can sense through plastic, dry walls, clothing, glass and many other materials, and through environmental conditions such as light, rain, dust, fog or frost.
• Get to work Now: TI's new millimeter Wave Software Development Kit (SDK) includes sample algorithms and software libraries that simplify RF design with less than 20 simple application programming interfaces (apis). By leveraging TI's mmWave SDK platform, engineers can begin their application design work in less than 30 minutes.

Not only can designers improve the safety features of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving - including ISO 26262, which enables the Vehicle Safety Integrity Level (ASIL-B) - they also offer new features such as automated parking assistance, pedestrian detection, and load factor and driver monitoring.
