Micron Technology, Inc. has begun qualification of the 6550 ION NVMe SSD with customers. The Micron 6550 ION is the world’s fastest 60TB data centre SSD and the industry’s first E3S and PCIe Gen5 60TB SSD.1 It follows the success of the award-winning 6500 ION and is engineered to deliver best-in-class performance, energy efficiency, endurance, security, and rack density for exascale data centre deployments.

     Micron Technology has begun certification with customers for the 6550 ION NVMe SSD. The Micron 6550 ION is the world's fastest 60TB data center SSD and the industry's first E3S and PCIe Gen5 60TB SSD.1, following the award-winning 6500 ION, and is designed to deliver best-in-class performance, energy efficiency, durability, security, and rack density for exaside data center deployments. SSDS excel at networked AI data lakes, data ingestion, data preparation and verification, file and object storage, public cloud storage, analytical databases, content distribution and other high-volume NVMe workloads.

     "The Micron 6550 ION achieves superior performance of 12GB/s while using only 20W of power, setting a new standard for data center performance and energy efficiency," said Alvaro Toledo, vice president and general manager of Micron's Data Center Storage Group. "The 60TB capacity was introduced at E3. The Micron 6550 ION is a game changer for high-capacity storage solutions that meet the insatiable capacity and power demands of AI workloads."

     The device is the industry's first PCIe Gen5 60TB data center SSD, offering best-in-class read and write bandwidth. The hard drive is also the world's first 60TB SSD to support OCP 2.5, introducing active State Power Management (ASPM). This new feature allows the drive to idle at 4W in the L1 state and 5W in the L0 state, increasing energy efficiency by 20% when idling. An even greater power advantage comes from the drive's industry-leading, energy-efficient G8 NAND, which is one to three generations ahead of competing 60TB SSDS, allowing the drive to reach its published performance figures using just 20W.
