Vishay IGBT power modules increase efficiency and reduce conduction losses in TIG welders

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of four new half-bridge and single-switch IGBT power modules designed specifically for TIG welders -VS-GP100TS60SFPBF, VS-GP250SA60S, VS-GP300TD60S and VS-GP400TD60S. Manufactured with Vishay's exclusive Trench PT IGBT technology, the four devices have an extremely low collector to emitter voltage of only 1.10V and a low turn-off switching energy of 11mJ for the output inverter stage.

     The Vishay Semiconductors feature the Trench PT IGBT structure, which enables a smaller size than a flat IGBT, with higher current density and lower thermal resistance (junction to enclosure), without any loss in performance. The device's lower collector-to-emitter voltage enables extremely low conduction losses, while its turn-off switching energy is 50% lower than previous generation devices, improving efficiency and long-term reliability.

     The half-bridge VS-GP100TS60SFPBF, VS-GP300TD60S and VS-GP400TD60S combine the Trench PT IGBT with HEXFRED® and FRED Pt® anti-parallel diodes. The very low height 17mm INT-A-PAK package and dual INT-A-PAK package are adopted. Single-switch tube VS-GP250SA60S in SOT-227 package, typical stray inductance is very low, less than 5nH, certified by UL file E78996.

     These modules are RoHS compliant and operate at a frequency of 1kHz, collector-emitter voltage of 600V, and collector continuous current of 100A to 400A. The device can be installed directly with the heat sink, and the EMI is small, reducing the requirement for the absorption circuit.
