Vishay's new miniature infrared receiver offers improved light performance and RF noise suppression

     Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its optoelectronics portfolio with the launch of two new families of micro infrared (IR) receiver modules -TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx - for mid-infrared remote control applications in consumer products. The Vishay Semiconductors TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx series devices are in the new Minimold package, with the same RF noise suppression as the Minicast receiver and superior optical performance to the Mold package devices. It can be used in products such as televisions, set-top boxes, air conditioners and hi-fi audio systems.

     The device has high sensitivity, with typical radiation as low as 0.08mW/m2 at 0° for the TSOP33xxx series and 0.12mW/m2 for the TSOP53xxx series. The Minimold package has the same sensitivity as the Mold package in the 0° direction and superior sensitivity to Mold devices at all declination angles up to 45°. The Minimold package also has a proven "F" option for better filtering of out-of-band optical noise.

     To simplify the design, the TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx series devices incorporate a light detector, preamplifier circuit, and infrared filter into a single 3-pin epoxy package. The supply voltage of the receiver is 2.5V ~ 5.5V; The typical supply current of the TSOP33xxx series is 0.35mA and that of the TSOP53xxx series is 0.7mA. Transmission distance up to 45 meters; The carrier frequency ranges from 30kHz to 56kHz. The device has improved the ability to suppress ambient light and is insensitive to supply voltage fluctuations and ripple noise.

     The infrared receiver is available in 5 automatic gain control (AGC) versions for short burst coding and long burst coding. TSOP331xx, TSOP332xx, TSOP531xx, and TSOP532xx are compatible with all common infrared control data formats. The TSOP333xx, TSOP334xx, TSOP533xx, and TSOP534xx are ideal for all types of remote controls, suppressing false pulses from CFLS and Wi-Fi sources, plus continuously transmitting data signals.

     Devices packaged in Mold and Minicast support crested or hand soldering only, and the Minimold receiver with the "P" option also supports infrared reflow soldering. The TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx series receivers are available in two different mounts and three different bendfeet, including top-view surface mount options. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
