Pioneering Internet of Things and robotics products that extend the edge ecosystem of the Smart network
Qualcomm Technologies announced the launch of the world's first integrated 5G Internet of Things processor designed to support four major operating systems, two new robotics platforms, and accelerator programs for Internet of Things ecosystem partners. These new innovations will enable manufacturers to participate in the rapid expansion of the intelligent network edge terminal.
Industry demand for smart networked and automated terminals is growing fast, and the market is expected to reach $116 billion by 2030, according to Precedence Research. To compete in today's rapidly evolving economy, companies need to provide reliable control and connectivity technologies for their Internet of Things and robotic terminals. Having shipped more than 350 million iot dedicated chipsets, Qualcomm Technologies is uniquely positioned to provide manufacturers with the platform they need to address this expanding niche.
"Qualcomm Technologies is committed to driving innovation, creating new business opportunities, and enabling next-generation 5G connectivity and top edge AI technologies -- starting with ensuring accessibility and performance across the ecosystem," said Dev Singh, vice president of business development and leader of the Building, enterprise, and Industrial Automation practice at Qualcomm Technologies.
The new Qualcomm QCM5430 Processor and Qualcomm QCS5430 Processor are the first software defined Internet of Things solutions from Qualcomm Technologies. With outstanding performance, excellent connectivity, and support for multiple operating system options, the platform can scale to cover a wide range of iot terminals and provide a visual environment for deployment configurations. Oems, which include manufacturers of industrial handheld terminals, retail devices, mid-range robots and connected cameras, AI edge boxes, etc., are now able to flexibly choose between top-of-the-line, pre-built or custom feature packs and upgrade them in the future to meet their own needs or offer upgrades to their customers.
The Qualcomm QCM5430/ Qualcomm QCS5430 processor supports dual cameras of up to 192 million pixels, concurrent services of up to five cameras, and video encoding of up to 4K60fps. With low power consumption and advanced edge AI processing, the processor is able to support machine vision requirements. When necessary, the edge AI can switch to the cloud to handle multiple camera connections and prioritize response time and energy efficiency based on manufacturer or user requirements. All terminals with Qualcomm QCM5430/ Qualcomm QCS5430 processors are designed to support enterprise-class end-side security.
The Feature sets for both preset platforms -- Qualcomm QCM5430/ Qualcomm QCS5430 Feature Set 1 (Feature Pack 1) and Qualcomm QCM5430/ Qualcomm QCS5430 Feature Set 2 (Feature Pack 2) -- include top-tier connectivity. Wi-Fi network support includes 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6E) with transmission speeds of up to 3.6Gbps, as well as other enhancements that reduce latency, improve response speed, and support seamless handoff in dense mesh networking environments such as hospitals and warehouses. The connectivity suite for the Qualcomm QCM5430 processor in different configurations also includes a 5G modem that supports millimeter-wave connectivity for ultra-fast data transfer and high-precision positioning.
The wired connection option in the feature set above supports one USB 3.1 port and one PCIe port, and can be configured with up to two PCIe ports and a display port supporting 4K60fps resolution, among other options. Upgraded feature Package 2 adds options to improve CPU performance and interface support. As part of the Qualcomm QCM5430/ Qualcomm QCS5430 custom feature portfolio, customers can choose from a variety of expandable, scalable options, including support for video up to 4K60fps resolution and cameras up to three ISP.
With the new Qualcomm Robotics RB1 and Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platforms powered by the new Qualcomm QRB2210 and QRB4210 processors, respectively, innovative companies in the robotics industry can build the next generation of high-performance everyday work robots and iot products. Both platforms are optimized for smaller terminals and lower power consumption, making them more cost effective and easier for the industry to adopt.
The Qualcomm Robotics RB1 platform and Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platform feature general-purpose computing and AI-centric performance and communication technologies, built-in machine vision technology that supports up to three cameras, providing end-to-end intelligence that blends this data with TDK's innovative high-performance sensors for applications such as automated navigation.
The features of Qualcomm Robot RB2 platform are expanded on the basis of Qualcomm Robot RB1 platform, with upgraded computing and GPU performance, as well as a dedicated AI accelerator that can provide twice the processing power of Qualcomm robot RB1 platform. As a result, the Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platform is capable of running advanced, real-time end-side AI with machine learning, detection, classification, and environmental interaction. It is capable of supporting cameras up to 25 megapixel resolution and has upgraded security features including a secure DSP and UI.
The Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platform also provides support for other peripheral standards such as UFS2.1, GPIO and UART. Both platforms support current and emerging connectivity standards, including wired connectivity (USB 3.1 Type-C interconnection and EMMC v 5.1 storage interface with SD3.0) and wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi, LTE and 5G. The Qualcomm Robotics RB1 platform and the Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platform and their development kits will be available for order later this month through Chuangtong Linda.
The Qualcomm Robotics RB1 platform and the Qualcomm Robotics RB2 platform are the latest innovations to strengthen the company's commitment to innovators and established builders in the growing field of robotics. The successful Qualcomm robotics platform family includes the Qualcomm ® Robot RB3 platform, Qualcomm ® Robot RB5 platform, and Qualcomm ® Robot RB6 platform. Currently, Qualcomm Technologies Inc. 's robotics platform is being used in various industries around the world, and even beyond. In 2021, the first helicopters to fly on Mars will be equipped with a Qualcomm robot and drone platform.
