The new panel mount connector is a key part of the highly compact confined space system

     Adhesive is expanding its product portfolio with Angle M5 panel mount connectors. These have been created specifically for applications that require highly compact and powerful solutions, offering new possibilities such as automation, robotics and measurement and control technologies.

     In applications such as circuit board assembly, every millimeter counts. More and more custom connector systems need to be used in minimal space. The same is true for complete solution providers in the electrical engineering and IT industries.

     "The company approached us as connector experts to see if we could provide one of the smallest connectors for their application. After reviewing the requirements, it quickly became clear that only an angled version would be appropriate. We didn't have that in our portfolio at the time. This led to a new development that has since attracted the interest of other clients. As a result, we will soon be adding angled M5 panel mount connectors to our standard product portfolio, "explains Guido Werner, binder Product Manager.

     The angled M5 panel mount connector forms an important part of the connector system, facilitating mechanical and electrical connections in confined Spaces.

     The M5 panel mount connector is ideal for applications where space constraints are a central challenge. Application areas can be very specific, and solutions can be tailored accordingly. Typical application areas include industrial camera technology, automated sensors, analytical devices, collaborative robots, and drones. These connectors are targeted at markets that require high reliability and robustness, such as robotics and measurement technology.

     The development of these panel mount connectors was a challenge for the company. "The angular version of our m5 size panel mount connector was a design challenge in itself. In addition, the customer requested that the component size be reduced to a maximum of 7.5 mm x 7.5 mm so that as many parts as possible could be placed side by side on the board. This gives us geometric constraints such as wall thickness, clearance, and creepage distance. Material choice also becomes a factor. Panel mount connectors require new contacts and a new housing. New production tools must be developed to ensure that Angle panel mounting connectors can be reliably mass-produced. But it's worth the effort. In the end, we managed to implement high-quality components, "explains Guido Werner.

     Another special feature is the almost invisible naked eye diffusion of the positioning pins, which provides optimal torsional protection of the board even before soldering. Another quality feature is the embedded O-ring, which ensures a reliable seal with the housing. When the panel mount connector is connected, the O-ring is pressed precisely against the housing, providing optimal sealing. This eliminates the risk of damage to the seal due to over-tightening.
